The white birch essential oil has a rather refreshing, woody-green balsamic scent. The oil is pale yellow in colour and is obtained by steam distillation from the leaf buds. The tree of the white birch has a sliver-white broken bark and green ovel leaves that grows to about 20 metres high. The tree is native to northers hemisphere, found throughout Eastern Europe, Russia, Sweeden, Finland, northern China and Japan. The birch is used in hair tonics and shampoos and cosmetics. Also used in the manufacture of soaps, perfumes and aftershaves.

Latin name: Betula alba.

Family: Betulaceae.

Plant part used: Tree/Bark/Twigs.

Extraction: This is by maceration & distillation of the tree, bark and twigs.

Aroma: A rather antiseptic though refreshing aroma.

Blends well with: Basil, black pepper, cedarwood, cypress, pine, chamomile, frankincense, lemon, cardomom, tagetes, orange, cajeput, thyme and lavender.
