Avocado oil is easily absorbed into the deep tissues and is therefore excellent for mature skin. It can help to relieve the dryness and itching of psoriasis and eczema. Although this oil blends well with other carrier oils, it has a distinctive fruity aroma, so choose essential oils with complementry fragrances. Extracted from the flesh of the avocado. It is rich in vitamin A and B, and lecithin, proteins and fatty acids. An excellent skin softener, it is easily absorbed. This is one of the best penetrating oils and is excellent to use for dry and mature skin types. A large number of vitamins and minerals, including B complex, A and E, makes it very nourishing oil as well. To increase the penetration power of Grapeseed or Almond oil, up to 10% of Avocado oil can be included. Avocado oil is beneficial to fatty tissue.

Useful for: Dry and dehydrated skin.

The plant: Acocado trees originate from tropical and sub-tropical areas of the Americas. Avocado trees now flourish in Spain and many other countries.

Therapeutic properties: The avocado is an excellent emollient, has a reputation for having a higher degree of penetration into the epidermis than most orher of the carrier oils, valuable in massage, moisturising, softening, reccomended for dry skins.

The oil: Avocado has excellent keeping qualitys. The oil is often cloudy when in cold conditions, but liquefies again when at room temperature, the cold pressed oil is a dark green colour. For aromatherapy the cold pressed, green oil is preffered.

Extraction method: Acocado oil is expressed from the dried avocado pears. The fruit is peeled and the stone removed before being sliced and dehydrated at a temperature of 130.c The sliced avocados are then ground before being cold pressed and then filtered to produce the oil.

Family: Lauraceae.

Odour: Similar to the ripe fruit in its native country.
