Basil Essential Oil (ocimum basilicum)

Basil essential oil has a perfumery note of top, with a clear, sweet-spicy, warm aromatic aroma that is reminiscent of aniseed oil. It is a light and uplifting aroma. There are more than one varietiey of the basil essential oil but the one often used in aromatherapy is the French basil, and this is the one we sell at Powells Aromatherapy. Basil oil is obtained through steam distillation from the flowering tops and the leaves of the herb. Basil has a nice clear, spicy aroma, that is reminiscent of aniseed oil. The aroma is very penetrating.

Latin name: Ocimum Basilicum.

Family: Labiatae.

Extraction: By distillation of the flowering tops, herb and the leaves.

Aroma: Very clear, sweet and slightly spicy.

Blends well with: Bergamot, Citronella, Clary Sage, Cypress, Geranium, Lime, Oakmoss, Orange, Frankincense, lemon, petitgrain, neroli and mandarin.
