Black Pepper Essential Oil (piper nigrum)

Black Pepper essential oil is extracted by steam distillation of the unripened dried fruit that is often and more commonly known as black peppercorns. Black Pepper shrubs grow to around 20 feet in the East and have a pungent, spicy aroma, like the fresh peppercorns with a perfumery top note. Because black pepper is a strong oil and can overpower an essential oil blend, it is often used in small amounts to add a hint of spice fragrance to a purfume or blend. Ideal for use in the bath, or as a room fragrancer.

Latin name: Piper nigrum.

Family: Piperaceae.

Plant part used: Shrub/Fruit.

Extraction: It is by steam distillation of the shrub and fruit parts.

Aroma: Very sharp and spicy.

Blends well with: frankincense, geranium, lavender, hyacinth, sandalwood, neroli, grapefruit, lemon, carrot seed, patchouli, orange, marjoram, rosemary, myrtle and rose.
