The caraway plant is native to Asia Minor and is cultivated in northern Europe, Africa and Russia. Caraway has a warming, sweet, slightly peppery and stimulating aroma with a top note. Over the years caraway has been used for soap making and perfumery. The Romans used the caraway extensively in ther cooking. The caraway plant grows to two feet hight, with soft leaves and small brown coloured fruits and white & pink flowers. Oil from the caraway is by steam distillation of the seeds and herb.

Latin name: Carum carvi.

Family: Umbelliferae.

Plant part used: Herbs/Seeds.

Extraction: By distillation of the seeds and herbs.

Aroma: Sweet, sharp and slightly peppery.

Blends well with: Cinnamon, Jasmine, frankincense, myrrh, benzoin, chamomile, coriander, elemi, geranium, ginger, lavender, orange, rosewood and neroli.
