Coriander is believed to be indigenous to Asia and southern Europe but is now grown in Europe and North America. The coriander essential oil has a warming aroma with a perfumery top note. The coriander is cultivated worldwide, it has been known for around 3000 years and has been mentioned by early Sanskrit writers. The corriander seeds were also discovered in Egyptian tombs. Coriander essential oil is distilled from the seeds of the plant when they are ripe. A colourless oil the coriander is often used in the pharmaceutical industry. Coriander is also used to make soaps, cosmetics and perfumes. This blends very well with many of the spice oils.

Latin name: Coriandrum sativum.

Family: Umbelliferae.

Plant part used: The herb/Fruit and (Seeds).

Extraction: Distillation of the herb and fruit seeds.

Aroma: A slightly pungent, sweet and spicy fragrance.

Blends well with: Bergamot, Clary Sage, Jasmine, Neroli, Citronella, Sandalwood, Cypress, Pine and Ginger.
