Frankincense Essential Oil (boswellia carteri)

Frankincense is a hardy shrub which can grow in the most barren soils. Frankincense originates from the Middle East but now the oil is also exported from North Africa, western India and China. When the bark is cut the resin exudes and is then collected to be steam distilled to extract the frankincense essential oil. The aroma is relaxing, calming and uplifting scent of frankincense is spicy, woody with a slight pine-like top note. The perfumery note of frankincense is middle/base. Frankincense has always been highly prized and used in spiritual rites in temples. Gold, frankincense and myrrh were given as gifts to the infant Jesus. Frankincense is often used in making treasured incense and has been used for centuries to appease the gods, as a room fragrancer, perfume or in massage and the bath.

How to use: Put a few drops of pure frankincense essential oil on a piece of cotton wool and place near a radiator, or add to a dish of steaming, hot water. You can also buy candles scented with frankincense, or you can make your own.

Blends with: Basil, geranium, lavender, orange, pine, melissa, patchouli, black pepper, bergamot, camomile, clary sage, basil, rose, rosemary, grapefruit, cypress, sage, petitgrain and Sandalwood.
