The ho wood is a tall tropical evergreen tree that reaches a height of up to 30 metres. The ho wood tree is the same tree that produces the camphor oil that comes from the wood of the tree. Native to China, Japan, Taiwan and the south-east Asia. It is now cultivated in countries like India, Australia, Madagascar and some parts of the USA. The ho wood essential oil is pale yellow in colour with a soft, warm floral and spicy scent and slightly camphor-like undertones. The wood of the tree is often used to make ornamental parts of houses, cabinet making, as the wood is very similar to rosewood. The essential oil is distilled from the leaves and wood.

Latin name: Hyssopus officinalis.

Family: Labiatae.

Plant part used: The herb, leaves and flowering tops.

Extraction: By distillation of the herb, leaves and the flowering tops of the plant.

Aroma: A warm, sweet band penetrating fragrance.

Blends well with: Black Pepper, cedarwood, cinnamon, cypress, neroli, oakmoss, basil, bergamot, cedarwood, chamomile, lavender, lime, geranium, geranium, petitgrain, myrtle, sandalwood, juniper berry, ylang ylang, sice oils and rose.
