The lime essential oil is extracted from the rind of the fruit before it ripens by machanical expression. The essential oil is a yellow/green colour. Lime oil has a sweet citrus aroma that is not as sharp as the lemon essential oil, can be especially appealing to men. It has warming properties. Lime today is often used as a flavoring in food and drink and a fragrance in cleansers and male toiletries. The lime tree is a small evergreen tree, with white flowers and the fruit is bright green. Smaller than the lemon fruits and have a bitter taste. Lime trees grow in several countries and are now grown in countries like Florida, Mexico, Italy and the West Indies. The lime essential oil has been used extensively in herbal medicine for many years and has many of the properties of the lemon. The lime essential oil can blend with many other oils and can be used in a vaporizer or room spray, this will help to disinfect a room.

Latin name: Citrus aurantifolia.

Family: Rutaceae.

Plant part used: The fruit and peel are used for this oil.

Extraction: By expression and distillation of the peel.

Aroma: This oil has a rather sharp and is bitter sweet aroma.

Blends well with: Bergamot, frankincense, jasmine, geranium, lavender, rose, cedarwood, lemon, Violet and ylang yang.
