Cedarwood oil has been used for many centuries. It is used in making incense. But now the main uses of cedarwood is commercially for its fragrance in many household products like in the manufacture of cosmetics and toiletries, in particular aftershaves. Many aromatherapists use cedarwood oil for the treatment of respiratory ailments. The oil has antiseptic prperties, and is effective against coughs, bronchitis and catarrh. Can be beneficial in the treatment of dandruff, eczema ans acne. Cedarwood has a pleasant warm aroma. The oil is particularly useful in treating stress and tension.

Uses of Cedarwood Atlas: Skin care: Acne, dandruff, dermatitis, Eczema, fungal infections, greasy skin. Bathing, compreses, massage, inhalation and vaporizers/diffusers/oil burners.

Latin name: Cedrus atlantica.

Source: The cedarwood atlas is obtained by steam distillation of the wood, stumps and sawdust from this evergreen tree that is native to the Atlas Mountains of Algeria, but most of the oil os produced in Morocco.

Description and aroma: Cedarwood Atlas is a dark amber liquid with a lovely warm, camphoraceous top note and sweet-woody undertones. It is said that the fragrance of cedarwood atlat improves with age. Its has an odour effect of being sedative and antidepressant; a reputed aphrodisiac.

Key qualities: Aphrodisiac, warming, tonic, uplifting, elevating, grounding, opening, comforting, reviving.

Blends well with: Bergamot, Black Pepper, Clary Sage, Frankincense, Hyacinth, Cypress, Lavender, Neroli, Rosewood and Ylang Ylang.
