This oil has a distinctive and well known fragrance and is easily recognised. It was always a favorite medicinal herb with native Australians, the Aborigines, who often crushed the leaves to heal there wounds, fight infection and relieve muscular pain. The wood of the herb was used for cooking on fires to add flavour to food. The oil is extracted from the Blue Gum tree from the leaves and twigs. The tree is native to Australia, the tree is now grown commercially in Spain, California and Portugal.

How does the Eucalyptus oil work: A stimulating oil that has been used in many cough and cold remedies for decades. Eucalyptus is a powerful antiseptic, it kills airbourne germs and has a cooling effect on the skin. Excellent for decongestant for fever, flu, coughs, colds or sinusitis. Eucalyptus soothes muscular aches, sprains and pains and helps to heal abrasions. You can use Eucalyptus oil in massage, baths and inhalations.

Mixing Eucalyptus oil: Eucalyptus can be mixed with many of the widely used essential oils (about half) including Angelica, Basil, Bay, Cedarwood (Atlas), Lemon, Laurel, Lavender, Chamomile, Geranium, Ginger, Juniper Berry, Frankincense, Pine, Peppermint, Clary Sage, Rosemary, Sandalwood, Tea Tree, Spruce and Thyme.

Latin name: Eucalyptus globulus.

Source: Eucalyptus oil is obtained by the steam distillation of the leaves and twigs of this tall evergreen tree that is native to Australia. Most of the eucalyptus oil is produced from cultivated trees grown in Portugal and Spain.

Description and aroma: This liquid is colourless with a camphoraceous-menthol fragrance. The eucalyptus odour is cooling and mentally stimulating and cooling.

Key qualities: Stimulating, refreshing, clearing, purifying, balsamic.

Blends well with: Basil, Cedarwood, Lemon, Vertivert, Peppermint and Clary Sage.
