Petitgrain essential oil is obtained from the leaves and twigs of the bitter orange tree, by steam distillation. The tree is hardy and is also known as citrus vulgaris or bigaradia or saville orange, also the neroli essential oil is derived from its fragrant blossoms and bitter orange oil from the rind of the fruit. There are other pettitgrain but the one we sell here is far more used in aromatherapy. Petitgrain is native to China and the Middle East, but the petitgrain tree is now grown in the Mediterranean, Brazil and the USA. The aroma of the pettitgrain essential oil is a refreshing, bitter-sweet, woody with a hint of floral and a perfurmery note of top/middle. The oil if often used in the manufacture of bath oil, cosmetics and soaps. Petitgraing sheres some of the properties of neroli and has a comparable but lighter aroma of the neroli oil.

Plant part used: The petitgrain essential oil is obtained from the orange tree leaves, young shoots and sometimes the tips of the young twigs. This way of obtaining oil was uneconomic, as to produce enough oil to warrant the effort and the oil was gradually transferred to obtaining the oil from the leaves.
