The ravensara tree is tall forest tree that is native to Madagascar, and can also be found in cultivation on the island of Reunion and in Mauritius. Because most of the tree is very aromatic and strongly scented most local people use the leaves, bark and fruits of the tree to obtain the essential oil. Ravensara has been used in aromatherapy since the 1980's but it has been used as far back as in the 18th century. The ravensara essential oil is almost colourless with an aroma close to that of rosemary essential oil. Ravensara oil can be compared to lavender oil because of its multi-action oil properties. Ravensara is more effective when used alone like lavender oil and is a safe oil that can be used by most people, including children. With its anti-viral and immunostimulant. It is effective against flue and flu-like virus infections, especially when used at the first stages of shivering, etc. Can be added to the bath, with a few drops added immediately before going to bed will often help with an attack of flu, ravensara can also help when used intensively in massagw, bathes and in inhalations. Aroma: The essential oil aroma is best described as a more delecate version of rosemay essential oil.
