Chamomile roman essential oil has a sweet fragrance with a hint of apple and a perfumery middle note. There are lots of types of camomile but roman and german camomile being the most popular, this description is for the roman camomile essential oil. Chamomile are members of the daisy family and the oil for the roman camomile is obtained through steam distillation of the flowers. The chamomile roaman is a small perennial herb that grows up to 25 cms in height, with a hairy stem and daisy-like white flowers which are larger than the German chamomile. The essential oil is a pale blue oil.

Latin name: Anthemis nobilis.

Family: Compositae.

Plant part used: Herbs/dried flowers.

Extraction: Distillation of the herbs and flowers.

Aroma: A fruity, apple like fragrance.

Blends well with: Bergamot, clary sage,, oakmoss, jasmine, labdanum, lavender, neroli, frankincense, geranium, myrrh, sandalwood, tea tree and Rose.

Oil combinations: The camomile essential oil has a powerful aroma, so you only need a little oil. Geranium, clary sage and lavender oil will all soften the aroma, while the adding of clary sage and lavender oil will also reinforce its sedative nature.

Using Camomile Essential Oil

Gentle camomile is perfect for treating even the most sensitive skins. There are many easy ways to make the most of camomile oil.

Inner Beauty Bath Oil Blend
This is a blend to increase your confidence. Mix the oils together and use half the amount per bath.

3 drops pure camomile essential oil
2 drops pure geranium essential oil
2 drops pure ylang ylang essential oil
1 drop pure bergamot essential oil

Soothing Body Oil
Apply this mixture over the body after a bath, morning or evening.

10ml diluted camomile oil
2 drops pure petitgrain essential oil

Aromatherapy Uses



Chamomile Massage Oil
Shake all the oils together well in a bottle. Using a small amount of blend each time, repeat massage morning and night. Blend the following oils together:

8 drops pure camomile essential oil
4 drops pure helichrysum essential oil
2 drops pure juniper essential oil
25ml sweet almond or grapeseed oil

Facial Compress
The following routine prepares your face before using any face mask or night cream, and will help your skin absorb your chosen beauty product. You will need some muslin to cover your face. Cut out eye holes, nose and face holes. Add 5ml of diluted camomile essential oil to a basinful of hot water, soak the muslin in the water and then wring out, before applying to your face. Leave the compress on for 10 minutes while you relax and do some deep, healing breathing.

Soothing Shoulder and Abdomen Massage
The gentle and healing properties of camomile essential oil can help to relieve tension headaches, ease cramped muscles and can help to encourage a deep healing sleep. Camomile has a wonderfull warming and balancing effect on the digestion so is ideal for massaging the abdomen, especially if constipation or period pain is a problem. Use 10ml diluted camomile oil or you can make this blend:

10ml diluted camomile oil
1 drop pure marjoram essential oil
1 drop pure bergamot essential oil

Pour the camomile oil into a small dish. Add the bergamot oil and marjoram oil, mix well to blend together.

Diy Projects
Camomile oil can be used for baths, homemade shower gels, perfumes, deodorants and can even be a gentle, cleansing oil for a balancing face mask.
