What is vetiver? It is native to sourhern India, Sri Lanka and Indonesia the vetiver is a grass. It grows to a height of 6 feet. The vetiver has deep, strong roots and in some countries the plant is planted to protect soil from erosion. Vetiver has been used for hundreds of years for there fragrance and for making weaving mats. The vetiver essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the roots of the plant. The essential oil is a reddish dark brown oil and has a woody, earthy fragrance that is almost musty. The oil has a therapuitic, relaxing effect known in India for the 'oil of tranquility'. Family: Gramineae.
Plant part used: The vetivert essential oil is obtained from the roots.
Extraction: The essential oil is distilled by stem distillation.
Aroma: A deep, earthy and smoky fragrance, somewhat reminiscent of both myrrh and patchouli, but diluted has lemony overtones, adds subtle notes to many blends when diluted. The distinctive aroma of vetivert is also reminiscent of woodland after a heavy rainfall.

Rosewood, Sandalwood and Ylang Ylang.

Vetivert Carpet FreshenerIf your fed up with synthetic fragrances, then this natural carpet freshener will be a revelation. In combination with bicarbonate of soda, it both suppresses stale odours and imparts a subtle freshness to the room.
You will need:
1. 250g bicarbonate of soda
2. plastic bag
3. 30-40 drops pure vetivert essential oil
4. flour or sugar shaker.
Measure the bicarbonate of soda and pour into the plastic bag. Add the drops of essential oil and then mix the blend in well. Seal up the plastic bag and then leave this for at least 24 hours, this will allow the bicarbonate of soda to absorb the oil. Spoon the freshner into the shaker. To use, Simple sprinkle it over the carpet., leave for at least half ann hour, then vacuum up.
Beauty Essentials With Vetivert OilSoftening Bath Milk A milk bath is a wonderful treat for your body. Simply add the following ingredients below to your bath when it is nearly full.
4tbsp dried milk powder (or you can use 300ml fresh milk, preferbly goat's milk)
1 drop pure vetivert essential oil
2 drops pure geranium essential oil
2 drops pure sandalwood essential oil
Yoghurt Body Pack The yoghurt will help to balance sebum secretion and the honey will moisturize. Mix together the ingredients and then apply to your body and face (always remember avoiding the eye area). Leave on for 15 minutes. Shower or rinse off with warm water.
4ml diluted vetivert oil
4tsp clear honey
5tbsp live, full fat yoghurt
Aromatic Earth Pack Applied as a face or body pack, clay will draw out the impurities and helps spotty skin to heal. Fuller's earth works in the same way, but will be more drying to the skin. If you have sensitive or dry skin use the Yoghurt body pack instead. Mix the clay or Fuller's earth with the water into a smooth paste. Stir in the honey and oils. Apply over the affected areas but avoid the neck and eye areas. Leave for about 10 minutes. Shower off with warm water.
