The white thyme essential oil is extracted from the fresh or dried leaves and flowering tops of this perennial herbaceous plant. It is mainly grown for the thyme essential oil in Spain, Morocco, France, Algeria, Israel and Greece. The ancient Egyptians used thyme for embalming, the Greeks and Romans for medical purposes. Said to have been added to hay in baby Jesus' crib and sewn into knight's clothing to keep them brave in battle. The white thyme essential oil has a tangy, herby smell, and is a good insect repellent.

Latin name:Thymus vulgaris.

Family: Labiatae.

Plant part used: The herb, flowers and leaves are used for obtaining the essential oil.

Extraction: Steam Distillation.

Properties of Thyme Essential Oil: Antiseptic, antispasmodic, aphrodisiac, carminative, expectorant, insecticide, stimulant, tonic. Body: Help fortifie the lung when treating colds, sore throats, coughs, bronchitis, whooping cough and asthma. Good for the circulation and helps to raise low blood pressure. Can be used for gout, rheumatism, arthritis since its stimulatiing effect and diuretic action facilitates the removal of uric acid.Can help to reduce painful arthritic swelling when used in a compress. Effects on the skin: A good tonic for the scalp and may be effective with dandruff. Helpful with wounds, sores, boils and carbuncles..

Aroma: Thyme essential oil has a strongly herbal fragrance, and rather sweet.

Blends well with: Bergamot, cedarwood, chamomile, cypress, lemon, niaouli, melissa, mandarin, rosemary and pine.
