Witch Hazel is well known in the pharmaceutical market, but take it back to its natural 100% organic form and reap the benefits it provides. This floral water has powerful anti-aging properties, along with being a strong antiseptic and harness the goodness it brings. Use as a toner to remove any excess dirt after cleansing, and refresh the skin whilst rebalancing the natural pH balance. Witch hazel is useful antiseptic and anti-inflammatory.

Witch hazel is small, twisted, woodland tree native to North America. Native American tribes used decoctions of the bark in poultices for swellings and tumours. The witch hazel is extracted by steam distillation of leaves and twigs.

How to use for summer: Make a cold compress for inflamed, tired or stinging eyes, sprains, sunburn, burns and heat rash. Keep the lotion in the fridge. To use, empty into a bowl, add ice cubes and soak cotton flannel in the liquid. Wring out the flannel and apply to the effected area for 30 minutes, refreshing the flannel as it warms. Dab neat onto mosquito and other insect bites and stings to relieve pain and reduce swelling.

Benefits: Witch hazel is a well-known first-aid remedy for treating cuts, bruises and swellings. It is also the best natural astringent for oily or problem skin, temporarily reducing the appearance of large pores.

How to use: Witch hazel makes a good antiseptic lotion for treating spots and pimples. Its gentle antiseptic action can be boosted by adding a small amount of pure tea tree or lavender essential oil (e.g. 1 drop of essential oil to 50ml of witch hazel.
