Marjoram sweet essential oil has a warm, penetrating, herbaceous, peppery and spicy aroma with a middle perfumery note. A well known herb that grows to about 2 feet high with highly aromatic leaves and clusters of small white flowers. The essential oil of marjoram sweet is obtained by steam distillation of the leaves and flowering tops. The marjoram oil was sacred in India and Egypt, and the Greeks it was a symbol of enduring love.

Latin name: Origanum marjorana.

Family: Labiatae.

Plant part used: The oil is obtained from the herbs, flowering heads of the plant and leaves.

Extraction: Steam distillation.

Aroma: Marjoram has a slightly spicy and warm aroma.

Oil combinations: Rosemary and eucalyptus oils help to reinforce the benefits of marjoram. Lavender helps to enhance its qualitys.

Blends well with: Basil, bergamot, fennel, geranium, black pepper, camomile, cedarwood, clary sage, cypress, eucalyptus, juniper berry, lavender, orange, patchouli, peppermint, rosemary, tea tree and Pine.

Using Marjoram Essential Oil

Kitchen Burner Blend
Why not try this burner blend to mask kitchen smells. Fill the small bowl of a burner with water. Add the oils. Light a night light under the bowl to heat the oils. (Never leave unattended).

1 drop pure marjoram essential oil
5 drops pure lemon essential oil
1 drop pure rosemary essential oil

Room Blend to Sooth the Nerves
2 drops pure marjoram essential oil
1 drop pure clary sage essential oil
4 drops pure bergamot essential oil
5 drops pure grapefruit essential oil

Blend all of the oils above together and store them in youe empty essential oil bottle. When you feel irritable, add 4 drops of the blend to some water in the bowl of your oil burner and light a candle.

After-Sports Rub Blend
If your body aches after your sports, apply a small amount of the following blend to the affected parts, making sure to avoid delicate areas.

20ml grapeseed or sweet almond oil
10ml diluted marjoram essential oil
3 drops pure black pepper essential oil
2 drops pure ginger essential oil

Shake well and use a small amount each time.

Relaxing Foot Bath.
This soothing foot bath combines the benefits of your essential oils with the healing effects of reflexology.

Pebbles
A handful of dead sea salt
5ml diluted marjoram oil
1 drop pure peppermint essential oil
1 drop pure lavender essential oil

Put round pebbles or flower arrangeing glass beads in a bowl, bucket or washing up bowl. Half fill it with warm water. Add the dead sea salt and essential oils. Soak the feet, rolling the soles of the feet across the pebbles to stimulate the reflex points.

Fortifying Massage Oil Blend
5ml diluted marjoram oil
10ml grapeseed or sweet almond oil
2 drops pure frankincense essential oil
2 drops pure grapefruit essential oil

Relaxing Massage Oil Blend
5ml diluted marjoram essential oil
10ml grapeseed or sweet almond oil
1 drop pure sandalwood essential oil
1 drop pure palmarosa essential oil
2 drops pure cedarwood essential oil

Massage
For massage marjoram works well with herbaceous woody or citrus oils. For healing don't worry if the strength of marjoram required slightly overpowers the other oils. An effective massage for tired, aching legs should include a variety of lighter and deeper strokes. More invigorating strokes improve the circulation and help remove the accumulated waste products that make the muscles ache, while slow, gentle stroking helps relax tense muscles and ease tightness and stiffness. Include some deeper kneading of the calves and thighs eases tense, overworked muscles.
